JAZZMIN BAR & DINING, COURTYARD BY MARRIOTT BRNO

The interior of Jazzmin Bar & Dining is part of the four-star hotel Courtyard by Marriott Brno, which we completed in 2016. After several years of operation, the original restaurant and bar space required a complete redesign, aiming to enlarge the bar and make it more visible from the street level. An unusual request from the investor was to create a venue with excellent acoustics, suitable for hosting jazz concerts—hence the new name, Jazzmin. The result is a spacious 430 m² area, divided into smaller zones to create a more intimate bar atmosphere, allowing guests to enjoy both a casual gathering and an evening with live music.

In designing the interior, we placed emphasis on high-quality materials that are both suitably representative and durable enough to withstand the dynamic hotel environment. Elements preserved from the original interior include oak parquet flooring and Brazilian granite stone tiles. A striking feature that remains from the previous design is the marble-clad columns and travertine, which is used on both the interior walls and the building’s façade.
The redesigned bar interior is now characterized by a palette of brass, gold, and deep blue velvet, complemented by American walnut wood furniture. The space is defined by soft, rounded shapes, with an interior design that incorporates sophisticated backlighting and reflective surfaces. These principles come together in the new golden acoustic ceiling panels, which are enhanced by colorful pendant lights from Bocci.

In addition to the large open bar and restaurant space, more intimate areas were created for smaller groups. Behind the bar, there is a quiet corner with velvet-clad walls, complemented by a mirror and Bocci lighting. For private meetings or gatherings of up to 12 people, a separate lounge is available, enclosed by a dark curtain with a figurative print.

The interior features carefully selected artworks that reflect the cultural atmosphere of iconic bars. Among them is a bar-themed painting by Karel Černý, enhancing the intimate ambiance of the lounge. Additionally, contemporary artist Michal Škapa has contributed neon art installations. One large neon motif is integrated into a custom furniture wall, concealing the bar’s back-of-house facilities. This dynamic artwork comes to life through alternating neon layers, with shifting light effects mirrored on the opposite wall, which is finished with a high-gloss lacquered panel. Further neon installations guide guests toward the entrance, including illuminated figures of a pianist and a trumpeter, as well as the "Jazzmin" sign placed above the main entrance.
"Creating neon art for a jazz club in Brno was an opportunity I just couldn’t pass up. Jazz, music, flowing lines, colors, and light—they all belong together. The result is a large-scale neon piece, over five meters wide, with layered colors and dynamic lighting programs. Different parts of the design can be highlighted to shift the mood of the space. I drew inspiration from American sign-making culture and classic jazz visuals, blending them with my own signature style."

Particular attention was given to the selection of custom-designed furniture, carefully tailored to complement the space, with a strong focus on both materials and high-quality craftsmanship. The interior furnishings combine American walnut with brass details, including a fully brass-clad bar. The design incorporates smart lighting, programmed to adapt to different scenes based on the time of day and the nature of the event. The building’s glass façade allows the restaurant interior to visually open up to the exterior, creating a seamless connection with the surrounding environment. The pedestrian zone and cycling path lead directly from the bar to an artificial lake, which forms part of the Spielberk Office Center.
The restroom design is equally distinctive. This space is intentionally darker in character, yet it is enlivened by golden decorative elements and red accent lighting. As in the bar, Bocci lighting plays a key role, complemented by strategically placed mirrors.
