SHOPPING CENTER BREWERY DĚČÍN

The shopping and cultural community center, Pivovar Děčín, is located in the area of the former brewery in Děčín Podmokly.

The core of the building is a two-storey shopping mall with more than 60 retail units with a rentable area of 17,500m2. The concept for the development was based on preserving the existing building and using its structure with as little intervention as possible, whilst creating new retail areas and technical facilities. The two-storey part of the new building makes use of the sloped terrain – Letná hill, by cutting into it and its roof creates a new area for the parking of 400 cars. The historical brewery buildings, with many unique spaces and constructions, were renovated and repurposed for the placement of typical and specific retail units including a restaurant with mini-brewery, playground, event hall and café etc.

The cohesion between old and new was bridged by a simple connection between the northern and southern courtyards built on the footprint of the former brewery courtyard. The shopping mall was designed to subtly conform to visual and physical connections between the interior and the rugged line of historical façades of the listed brewery. The colour scheme was based on natural colours - creating harmony between the reconstructed façades of the historical buildings in pastel tones and the faced concrete on new buildings. Wooden and glass details create a calming atmosphere, whilst the use of black unifies the backgrounds of advertisement spaces. A combination of grey and white checkered tiling with decorative accents based on original patterns works well in the public space.
