This block of tenement houses for clerics was built in 1911 in the remediation area, Josefov, by builder Josef Žák, following a project proposal by A. Engel. Triple tract houses in a V shaped floorplan are located in an ideal location near the old Jewish cemetery. The majority of these houses have been preserved and to this day remain mainly untouched. They are a cultural monument and since 1993 have been declared a World Heritage Site of cultural importance by UNESCO.

Studio acht was tasked with the reconstruction of a two-bedroom apartment with an area of 131m2, lying within the housing complex. The aim was to improve the quality of living i.e. rehabilitation of old spaces and modernization of hygiene facilities. The new arrangement of the bathroom and toilet made it possible to create a generous entrance hall and cloakroom with access to the living room and bedroom. There is a small technical facility located in the entrance hall containing the gas boiler. The kitchen and living room are connected by a new four-leaf folding door.

At the client’s request, the bedroom furniture, kitchen, bookshelves, wardrobes and radiator covers were custom designed.

Architecturally valuable details and elements such as the original coffered doors and brass  window fittings and doors were preserved throughout the whole apartment.
